Martha Ross Hood was born in Wabash in 1932. Her parents operated a jewelry store, where Martha helped as a child, but when she grew up, she went to Indiana University to become a teacher. The Hoods created this scholarship to help hard working students build the means of taking care of themselves and their families. Students who have lived in the county at least three years and attended Wabash High School at least two years may apply. Recipients may study in any field, but preference will be given to a student who plans to pursue teacher education. The recipient will be active in extra-curricular activities, have financial need, and will have articulated a commitment to the Christian faith.
