Doug and Barbara Vawter established this scholarship in memory of Barbara’s parents, Marietta and Paul Sell. The Sells were active in and supported numerous community, church, and 4-H events in Wabash County and modeled the virtues of the 4-H pledge (Head, Heart, Hands and Health) and motto (To Make the Best Better). They believed deeply in giving thanks with grateful hearts and reaching out with God’s love. Barbara Vawter says, “4-H has meant a lot to my family – the club teaches responsibility, perseverance, leadership, and doing the best you can. Members receive support and encouragement from adult leaders, while the program promotes independence, character-building, and self-confidence.”
