The Community Foundation of Wabash County is proud to announce Bob Ferguson as the recipient of the 2026 Philanthropist of the Year Award, recognizing his outstanding commitment to community, leadership, and generosity.
Ferguson is being honored for his instrumental role in championing the development of a new community park and playground in the Town of Roann. What began as a vision to create a space for families and children to gather has grown into a community-wide effort, thanks in large part to Ferguson’s passion and persistence.
Through countless hours of planning, organizing, and fundraising, Ferguson has worked tirelessly to bring the project to life. He has led numerous fundraising events, rallied community support, and inspired individuals and organizations alike to invest in a shared vision for Roann’s families and children.
“Bob exemplifies what it means to be a philanthropist,” says Alex Downard, President and CEO at the Community Foundation of Wabash County. “He saw an opportunity to create something meaningful for his community and committed himself fully to making it happen. Leaders like Bob and projects like this are what make rural Indiana and our work at Community Foundation of Wabash County so special.”
The park project stands as a testament to Ferguson’s belief in the power of community. More than just a physical space, it represents connection, opportunity, and a lasting investment in the well-being of local families.
“Bob reminds us that philanthropy is not just financial gifts, but the ability to see a need, believe in possibilities to meet that need, and galvanize the community behind a vision,” remarked Melissa Ford-Kalbfell, Development Director of the Community Foundation. Because of Bob’s vision, the Roann park will be a place families and children can create memories for generations.
The Philanthropist of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual who demonstrates exceptional dedication to charitable giving, volunteerism, leadership, and service. Ferguson’s efforts reflect the very best of these qualities, leaving a lasting impact on Roann and the broader Wabash County community. In addition to the park, Ferguson is an advocate and champion of the Imagine One 85, countywide comprehensive plan to grow population, a strong supporter of Roann’s Community Heritage, and plays percussion in many local bands and orchestras.
The Community Foundation congratulates Bob Ferguson on this well-deserved honor and thanks him for his continued commitment to building a stronger Wabash County.
