2026 Giving Here Recipient

The Community Foundation of Wabash County is proud to honor Diane Morris as the recipient of the 2026 Giving Here Volunteer Philly Award, recognizing her extraordinary contributions to the cultural, civic, and nonprofit life of Wabash County.

Diane has played a transformative role in shaping the community through her leadership, creativity, and unwavering commitment to service.

Most recently, Diane is leading the charge for change, transparency, and growth at the Wabash County Animal Shelter through her role as board chair. Under her guidance, the organization has evolved into a

well-managed, effective resource that serves both animals and residents with compassion and care. Diane not only leads the Board, but she also spends countless hours volunteering in the shelter, driving animals to and from Purdue and Fort Wayne for spay and neutering, and actively searching for every animal’s forever home.

In addition to the shelter, Diane is also recognized for helping to reimagine what downtown Wabash could be. She founded and served as president of the Wabash Art Festival, president of the Herb Fest, and co-founded First Friday. She is also co-owner, alongside Amy Ford, of Borders and Beyond, which they opened in 2002. At a time when few businesses and festivals were active, her vision sparked new energy and laid the foundation for a vibrant and thriving downtown.

“Diane’s impact on Wabash does not go unnoticed,” said Melissa Ford-Kalbfell, Development Director at the Community Foundation. “She has a unique ability to bring people together and create experiences that strengthen our community.”

In addition to her leadership in community events, Diane is widely recognized for her generosity and talent. Her handmade quilts have become a highlight of local auctions, consistently raising significant funds for charitable causes and demonstrating her ability to turn creativity into meaningful impact.

“Diane’s heart for service shows up year after year as she faithfully volunteers and serves as an ambassador for Wabash Run the River and the Dam to Dam Bike Ride,” says Christine Flohr, Executive Director of Visit Wabash County. “From giving her time to welcoming participants for each event and even preparing and hosting an authentic Greek dinner for one of our Trolley No.85 experiences, she goes above and beyond in every way. Diane intentionally sets aside time to give back to Wabash County, and that kind of generosity deserves to be celebrated. Her unwavering support of Visit Wabash County’s programs and this county is a true gift to our community.”

The Giving Here Volunteer of the Year Award celebrates individuals whose selfless service improves quality of life and inspires others to give back. Diane’s dedication and leadership have left an enduring mark on Wabash County and continue to shape its future.

The Community Foundation congratulates Diane Morris on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for her continued commitment to building a vibrant and connected community.
