2025 Giving Here Recipient

In recognition of his extraordinary dedication to serving the community and selfless contributions of time, talent, and heart across Wabash County, the Community Foundation was pleased to award the 2025 Giving Here Volunteer Philly award to Mark Sorg.

A lifelong resident of North Manchester, Sorg’s commitment to volunteerism is evident in nearly every corner of the community. His tireless work on the Wabash River Trail helped shape one of the county’s most treasured outdoor assets, and his continued maintenance efforts ensure that generations to come can enjoy it.

Beyond his work with the trail, Sorg serves faithfully at St. Robert’s Catholic Church and with the Knights of Columbus, lending his skills in everything from electrical work to kitchen service. His generous spirit extends even further — maintaining the flower beds at the MRA complex in memory of his mother, supporting Downtown Wabash initiatives like Mammoth Park and Rock City Alleyway, and stepping in behind the scenes at events like Wabash Valley Dance Theater’s production of The Nutcracker.

Sorg’s reach is wide: from assisting with the local FISH food pantry to calling on his vast network of local connections to accomplish projects that improve life for everyone. Even after his retirement from Gaunt Asphalt in 2015, Sorg’s calendar remains full of service, fueled by a humble commitment to helping others whenever needed.

"Mark’s heart for service touches every person and organization he helps," said Sam McFadden, Director of Community Grantmaking and Financial Management. "Wabash County is a stronger, kinder place because of volunteers like him."

The community congratulates Mark Sorg on receiving the "Giving Here" Award — an honor richly deserved.
