2024 Philanthropist of the Year

The Community Foundation of Wabash County is pleased to award Dave Mann the inaugural Philly for Philanthropist of the Year for his outstanding contributions, volunteerism, and dedication to Wabash County. Dave not only gives generously of his time, talent, and treasure, but through his actions and his work as a financial adviser at Northwestern Mutual, inspires others to give back to the community.

Dave has been a resident of Wabash County since his time as a student at Manchester University in 1966. He and his wife Jane were married in 1969, and they settled in Wabash in 1970 where they raised three children. A friend to people of all ages, Dave doesn’t know a stranger. He has served as mentor to youth through his service as the District Commissioner for Boy Scouts of America and as a coach for wrestling, tennis, and Little League Baseball teams.

Throughout his life, Dave has provided his leadership and expertise on the boards of many organizations including the Wabash Area Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation of Wabash County, the American Red Cross, Manchester University, and the United Fund. He has also been a member of the First United Methodist Church for 53 years, for which he has served as a chairman of their finance committee, a member of the Board of Managers, a member of the Youth Council, a member of the choir and handbell choir, and a Chairman of Wesley Academy. He has also been a devoted member of the Wabash Rotary Club for over 50 years.

Through Dave’s 17 years of involvement with the Community Foundation, he’s served as a long-time chair of the development committee and has facilitated numerous gifts that improve the lives of Wabash County citizens. Anyone who knows Dave, knows he is a champion of unrestricted endowments. He continually shares the benefits of unrestricted gifts with others, as they are able to address the needs of tomorrow.

In his spare (or not so spare) time, Dave enjoys traveling, cycling, golfing, and attending his seven grandchildren’s activities. He’s a strong supporter of the Wabash River Trail and has been integral on the Steering Committee of the Dam to Dam century ride that brings hundreds of cyclists from across the country to Wabash County every year.

Dave has a deep appreciation of Wabash County and its people, the many natural resources, and wonderful amenities. He takes full advantage of life’s opportunities, and he works hard to secure similar opportunities and blessings for future generations. Dave’s commitment to Wabash County and its future is why the Foundation was thrilled to recognize him as the 2024 Philanthropist of the Year.
