Faith Macy Named 2019 Lilly Scholar

Faith Macy, a senior at Northfield High School is the 2019 recipient of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Wabash County, awarded by the Community Foundation. The scholarship is a four-year, full tuition scholarship to any accredited public or private college or university in Indiana and includes a $900 stipend annually for books and supplies. Faith is the daughter of Curtis and Rebekah Macy.


Faith Macy NHS CopyAs a first generation college student, Faith hopes to gain experiences that no one in her family has had the opportunity to do. She plans to study abroad to experience new culture and customs, meet new people, and gain a better understanding of the world. Faith is still undecided on her future plans, but intends to either attend the University of Indianapolis to major in nursing to pursue a career as a Pediatric Operating Room Nurse or attend the University of Notre Dame to pursue a career in diplomatic service with interest in becoming an ambassador for the United States.


An accomplished student, Faith is currently ranked first in her class. She is a member of Yearbook, Student Council, Key Club, and National Honor Society. She is a National Merit Commended Student for her achievement on the SAT and was named Rising Star of Indiana in 2017. Faith also works part time at the Wabash Carnegie Public Library and volunteers at the Access Youth Center. In addition to her high school course work, Faith has taken AP classes and multiple college courses, which will allow her to enter into college with 18 credits already on her transcript.


Her teacher, Denise Stouffer, describes Faith as an “organized, exemplary student with a tremendous work ethic.” Stouffer says, “Faith gives one hundred percent of her abilities to all her endeavors. She is very helpful and supporting of her peers; willing to spend time working with others to increase their mastery of information and skills. As an individual she strives to reach her full potential and motivate her peers toward theirs.”


In her volunteer activities, her interaction with others, and her future career goals, it is clear that Faith is a compassionate individual with a heart for serving others. Her academic achievements and dedication demonstrated thus far leave no doubt that she will be successful in her future endeavors.


Faith Macy will represent Wabash County well in this prestigious program. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Wabash County is funded by the Lilly Endowment and awarded by the Community Foundation. Selection of a recipient is based on a variety of criteria, among them high academic achievement, financial need, work and volunteerism, participation in school and community activities, leadership, and well-written essays. The chief purpose of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana and to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.
