Endowment Funds

Unrestricted Endowments

Unrestricted endowments are endowments whose earnings are not designated or restricted to an organization of specific purpose, but rather are free to support a program of perpetual grant-giving designed to respond to the ever-changing needs of our community.  Distributions from these endowments, called the Good Deeds Endowments, are available to the community by application and are awarded at the discretion of the Community Foundation.

These unrestricted endowments were provided to honor and memorialize friends and loved ones.

Robert E. & Verna Margaret Beauchamp Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and honors Robert and Verna Margaret Beauchamp.  Through their successful business endeavors, support of many charitable organizations, and lifelong belief in the value of education, they have greatly contributed to the quality of life for Wabash County citizens.

John J. Ebersole Peacemaker Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and was established to honor John J. Ebersole who devoted his life to further peace, and to promote acceptance, justice, and respect for all persons.

Mohandas K. Gandhi Charitable Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and honors the memory of Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948), whose commitment to nonviolence in confronting the injustices of this world inspired his generation.  He proved to the world the power of nonviolent action, freeing by its force an entire subcontinent from foreign rule.

A. Blair & Patricia Kennedy Helman Charitable Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and honors A. Blair and Patricia Kennedy Helman, who, in providing 30 years of leadership as President and First Lady of Manchester College, made a profound impact on Manchester College and the Wabash County community.

David & Jane (McKinley) Mann and Ovid & Marguerite McKinley Charitable Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and honors David, Jane, Ovid, and Marguerites’ commitment and dedication to numerous organizations in Wabash County that serve to help develop our youth, provide support for those with special needs, and enhance the quality of life for all citizens.

Honorable Mayor J. Robert Mitten Charitable Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and honors the memory of the Honorable J. Robert Mitten, who served as Mayor of the City of Wabash from 1956 through 1968.  Mayor Mitten, who cared deeply about the rights of the individual, worked tirelessly to improve Wabash and encouraged citizen participation in government.

Howard C. & Pauline E. Sommer Charitable Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and honors Howard and Pauline Sommer.  Through successful business endeavors and their work with the support of many charitable organizations, they significantly have enhanced the quality of life in Wabash County.

Spirit of Community through Faithful Living Endowment provides unrestricted funds for community grantmaking and pays tribute to Michelle and J.P. Freeman, who untiringly respond to those in need, both physically and spiritually; Rachel and Bob Gross, who lead in resolving conflicts nonviolently and work to abolish the death penalty; Katy and Jeff Hawkins, who treat all people as worthy and bring out the best in everyone; and Arlene and Cliff Kindy, who husband the earth with organic gardening and witness prophetically to the power of love.

Strauss Family Charitable Endowment honors Billie Jane and Donald Mills Strauss for living with honor, joy, charity, faith, and imagination.  Through their successful business endeavors, support of many charitable organizations, and lifelong belief in the value of education, they have greatly contributed to the quality of life for Wabash County citizens.

 Designated Endowments
The founders of a designated endowment designated, or named in the agreement the organization or charitable purpose which will receive the grants from the endowment.  Donors can name more than one organization and the purpose of the grants can be broadly or narrowly defined.  For example, grants can be distributed to your church annually to broadly support operations, or alternatively, specifically limited support only, for example, summer bible school.


Animal Welfare

Wabash County Animal Shelter Endowment was created by Rita Schroll to support the mission and operations of the Animal Shelter of Wabash County.

Howard B. Liebengood, D.V.M. & Helen F. Liebengood Kosciusko County Animal Shelter Endowment was created by Dr. and Mrs. Liebengood to provide funds to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, Inc. to be used to support the operations of the Kosciusko County Animal Shelter.

Beautification, Civic, Cultural Affairs

ACRES Endowment provides support to ACRES, Inc., who owns protected natural land in Wabash County, to carry out its role and mission.

ArtShare Endowment mission is to act as a central repository, collector, agent, and cataloger of artwork in Wabash County. It was established by the gift of an untitled watercolor by North Manchester native artist, Daniel Garber.

Howard M. Garver Wabash Valley Music Association Endowment was begun by V. Anne Garver in memory of Howard M. Garver to provide funds for the Wabash Valley Music Association programs, with specific emphasis on the annual Wabash County Honors Band and Choir Concert.

Honeywell House Endowment supports the operation of this cultural center and its recitals, concerts, lectures, and art exhibits.

Manchester Symphony Society Endowment provides funds for the Manchester Symphony Society, Inc. which encourages the production of quality music and an appreciation of its value to the community.

Richard & Kay Neher Wabash Valley Music Association Endowment was established by family and friends to provide funding for the Wabash Valley Music Association programs. Mr. Neher served on the Association Board from 1952 through 1980.

North Manchester Parks and Recreation Endowment provides funds for the general operations of the Department.

Sesquicentennial Gazebo Endowment provides for the maintenance of the gazebo in Warvel Park, North Manchester, IN, which was built for the dual purpose of commemorating the 150th year of the establishment of the Town of North Manchester and Hoosier Celebration '88. 

Dr. Worth M. Walrod Memorial Tree Endowment was established by Mrs. Walrod in memory of her husband to provide funds to plant trees in lawns within the North Manchester town limits.

 Cemetery

Laketon Cemetery Endowment provides for the maintenance, repair, and restoration of monuments, headstones, and grave markers of historical or architectural significance to the community; funds for the preservation, beautification, and maintenance of abandoned or deteriorating graves; and provides for the maintenance of semipublic areas.

Martin Luther Cemetery Endowment provides funds to the Martin Luther Cemetery, Noble Township, Wabash County, Indiana.

Helen E. Nabers Endowment provides funds for the general upkeep and maintenance of the Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana

Oaklawn Cemetery Endowment provides funds to the Oaklawn Cemetery Association, Inc. in North Manchester, Indiana

Oppenheim/Flonacher Cemetery Endowment provides for the upkeep and beautification of gravesites at Rosehill Cemetery-Mausoleum, Chicago, IL and Rodef-Shohem Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana.
Pleasant Hill Cemetery Endowment provides income to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery for the preservation, beautification, and maintenance of the cemetery; and for the maintenance of semipublic areas.

Emma Schwenk Cemetery Endowment provides funds for maintenance of Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester and Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Township, Wabash County.

 Centers and Organizations

Honeywell Foundation, Inc. General Endowment provides funds to effectively and efficiently operate the Honeywell Center in Wabash as a cultural, conference, and recreational facility.

Thomas Marshall Town Life Center Maintenance Endowment was established by Glen Blocher to help support the maintenance of this former Manchester school which is used as a social service and recreational center.

Charles M. and Bernice C. Minear Endowment provides funds to maintain and preserve Scout Hall in North Manchester, IN, which is used by scouts, senior citizens, family reunion groups, and others.

Wabash County United Fund Endowment assists the mission of the United Fund and to help contain future administrative costs in order to maximize campaign funds available for actual human health and social service programs.

Community Foundation Cornerstone

Agro-Chem Cornerstone Administrative Endowment was created by Agro-Chem, Inc. to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Eileen Basicker Cornerstone Endowment provides funds for the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Beacon Credit Union Cornerstone Administrative Endowment was created by Beacon Credit Union to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Fern Benson Memorial Endowment was created by Ms. Benson to provide funds for the administrative and operational expenses of the Foundation.

Bippus State Bank Cornerstone Endowment was created by Bippus State Bank to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Community Foundation of Wabash County Cornerstone Endowment was created by contributions from Ford Meter Box Foundation and other area businesses to provide for the ongoing operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Crossroads Bank Cornerstone Endowment was created by Crossroads Bank to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

The Family of Thom D. Dunlavy Endowment provides support to the Community Foundation to cover its operating expenses and carry out its role and mission.

First Farmers Bank & Trust Endowment was created by First Farmer’s Bank and Trust to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

First Financial Bank Cornerstone Endowment was created by First Financial Bank to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

First Merchants Bank Cornerstone Endowment was created by First Merchants Bank to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Gilbert Naragon Terrill & Co., Inc. Administrative Expense Endowment provides income for the day-to-day operation of the Community Foundation.

David D. Grandstaff & Jane C. Grandstaff Cornerstone Endowment, established by David and Jane Grandstaff, provides funds to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Patricia S. and David M. Grant Cornerstone Endowment was created by Mr. and Mrs. Grant to provide funds for the day-to-day operation of the Community Foundation.

Halderman Family Cornerstone Endowment provides support for the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Bruce A. & Bonnie S. Ingraham Cornerstone Endowment, created by Mr. and Mrs. Ingraham, supports the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Rufus B. King Memorial Endowment was established by the Community Foundation board from an unrestricted gift made through Mr. King’s will.   The endowment provides operational support to the Community Foundation.

Howard B. Liebengood, D.V.M. & Helen F. Liebengood Cornerstone Endowment was created by Dr. and Mrs. Liebengood to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Mary Louise Little Memorial Endowment was funded by proceeds from a charitable remainder trust created by her will.  The endowment provides operational support to the Community Foundation.

Lindy L. & Norma L. Lybarger Charitable Endowment supports the administrative and operations expenses of the Foundation.

Manchester Tool and Die Company, Inc. Administrative Endowment was established to provide funds for the ongoing operational expenses of the Community Foundation of Wabash County. 


Stephen O. & Marilyn F. Sexton Mason Cornerstone Endowment provides funds for the administrative and operational expenses of the Foundation.

Mutual Bank Cornerstone Endowment was created by Mutual Bank to support the administrative and operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Ernest R. & Roberta Kay Peas Cornerstone Administrative Endowment was established by Ernest and Roberta Peas to provide support for the administrative and operational expenses of the Foundation.

David J. Schlitt Administrative Endowment was established by Al and Ruth Ann Schlitt in memory of David to provide funds for operating the Community Foundation.

Esther Jane Sheller Memorial Endowment was established by Mrs. Sheller’s family. Mrs. Sheller and her family owned and operated the Historic Sheller Hotel and Restaurant for over one hundred years.

Paul L. Speicher Administrative Endowment created in memory of Paul L. Speicher, provides funds for the ongoing operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

Elizabeth K. Spurgeon Memorial Endowment was established by the Community Foundation Board from an estate gift. 

Strauss Family Cornerstone Endowment provides funds for the ongoing operational expenses of the Community Foundation.

William and Charlene Visser Memorial Endowment was funded by trusts created during the VIsser’s lifetime to be used for the ongoing operational expenses of the Community Foundation.  Mr. Visser was a founding member of the Community Foundation.

Education

Vanessa Anne Baer Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Vanessa's family and friends to support the Northfield High School art department. 

Eleanor Blocher Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships for ministerial division or seminary students attending Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.

Education For Conflict Resolution Peace Makers Endowment was established by David Doudt to support Education for Conflict Resolution, Inc. in its effort to provide education, in and the promotion of, harmony and reconciliation through its various community mediation services. 


Carol Horn Honorary Endowment for Conflict Resolution provides funds for purposes supporting conflict resolution in Wabash County.

Ivy Tech State College Community Spirit Scholarship Endowment provides financial aid, in the form of scholarships covering tuition and books, to qualified applicants who are residents of Wabash County, Indiana, and who attend Ivy Tech State College.

Lakeland Christian Academy Building Maintenance Endowment provides funds to maintain buildings for Lakeland Christian Academy, Winona Lake, Indiana.

Learn More Center Endowment provides funds to support the activities for the North Manchester Learn More Center, North Manchester, Indiana.

Endowment to Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. provides funds to honor and celebrate annually at Manchester High School, North Manchester, Indiana, the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., the principles he stood for, and the methods of non-violence he believed in for social change, by means of an all school event to occur on or near January 15th, the birth date of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Manchester Junior High School Library and Audio-Visual Endowment was established by James Mishler, principal of the Manchester Junior High School for 18 years, and others to assist in the purchase of library and audio-visual materials that cannot be purchased within the existing budget allocation.

Carolyn K. Paulus Talent Scholarship Endowment was established by Jean E. Paulus to honor her daughter, a former Miss Illinois. The scholarship is awarded annually to the Miss Illinois contestant with the highest score from the judges for talent.

St. Bernard’s School Endowment provides funds for this Wabash School to be used for physical plant improvement, educational opportunities not covered in the general budget, and maintenance and improvements in curriculum related to technology.

Warsaw Christian School Walden Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships for students of this Warsaw elementary school whose family cannot afford to pay the full tuition charge. 

Families, Children, and Youth


Ray & Enid Beam Wabash Street Level Ministries Endowment provides funds to Wabash Street Level Ministries, Wabash, Indiana, to be used for ministering to people through The Access.

Ray & Enid Beam White’s Residential & Family Services Endowment provides funds to White’s Residential & Family Services, Inc., Wabash, Indiana, to be used for enhance services to residents of the Wabash County campus.

Boy Scouts of America Sagamore Council Fund provides support to the Sagamore Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Children on the Threshold of a Dream Endowment provides funds for the Manchester Early Learning Center whose mission is to provide a high quality, safe, learning environment for children of the greater North Manchester area.

Family Service Society, Inc. Endowment helps carry out its role and mission of providing safe shelters, education and counseling services for Wabash County individuals and families in times of crisis or for crisis prevention.    

Wabash County Habitat for Humanity Endowment was established by Glenn A. and Nedra Hawkins in memory of his parents, Leo and Velma Hawkins. It supports the building of affordable housing for those in need in Wabash County.

Howard B. Liebengood, D.V.M. & Helen F. Liebengood 4-H Endowment provides funds to the Kosciusko County 4-H Council to be used to support equally the activities of the Silver Lake Rambling Farmers Club, Hoosier Llama Lovers Club, and 4-H Shooting Sports Club.

Ellie Kate Mann Memorial Endowment was established in memory of Ellie Kate Mann and provides support to The Compassionate Friends, an organization which supports families after the death of a child. 

Eleanor Steele Doll Endowment provides funds to purchase dolls and other toys for needy children of the North Manchester area.

Gayle Thompson CASA Memorial Endowment provides support to Wabash County CASA in Wabash, Indiana.

Tribal Trails Girl Scout Council Endowment provides funds to the Tribal Trails Girl Scout Council to further their work in serving girls from Wabash County.

Tri-Kappa Children’s Support Endowment helps kindergarten through grade twelve youth who have critical and emergency needs by providing monetary assistance to the Manchester Community Schools Crisis Intervention Team.

Wabash County YMCA Endowment provides funds to the Wabash County YMCA Inc., Wabash, Indiana to be used to support their operations and programming.

Wabash County YMCA Operations Endowment provides funds to the Wabash County YMCA, Inc., Wabash, Indiana, in support of its general operations and programming.

Wabash County YMCA Outdoor Programming Endowment provides funds to the Wabash County YMCA, Inc., Wabash, Indiana, in support of its operations, programming, and capital improvements at the Field of Dreams/Morrett Sports Complex, Wabash, Indiana.

White's Residential and Family Services Endowment supports this Wabash County facility and the extended programs that provide focused, caring adult supervision and guidance to young people at risk.

 

Health

Lillie Dale Medical Care Endowment provides funds to pay for care, including hospitalization and nursing assistance, for those citizens of Wabash County not financially able to pay for services.

H.O.P.E. Foundation Endowment provides funds for the Hospital Oncology Program Extension of Wabash, Inc. to supplement cancer patient care.

Eliza E. Pressler Expectant Mothers Endowment provides funds for prenatal care for expectant mothers who are residents of Wabash County and financially unable to pay for care.

Kerry Joe Schannep Memorial Endowment provides support to the Wabash County Hospital Foundation, Inc., Wabash, Indiana.  Such support shall be used to enable the Wabash County Hospital Foundation to provide assistance to the Oncology Department of the Wabash County Hospital.

Wabash County Hospital Foundation, Inc. Endowment was established to help support the operation and programs that will continue patient-focused care in Wabash County Hospital.

International

Ray & Enid Beam World Vision Endowment provides funds to World Vision, Federal Way, Washington, to be used to sponsor and support care and maintenance of children.

Ralph R. Reiken Housing Endowment provides income to be used to purchase materials to construct modest housing for those living with no or substandard housing in underdeveloped parts of this world.

Speicher Foundation-Heifer Project Endowment provides funds to Heifer Project International, Little Rock, Arizona.

Charles and Helen Sutton World Friendship Endowment was established by friends to continue the interests of this pastoral couple to assist projects that build bridges of understanding between Japan and other Asian countries. The effort will be coordinated by the World Friendship Center in Hiroshima, Japan.

Library Services

Fern Benson North Manchester Library Endowment provides funds from her estate to be used by the North Manchester Library for its operating expenses and to carry out its role and mission.  

Eleanor Steele Blocher Library Endowment provides funds to purchase books, magazines and other library materials for the North Manchester Public Library.

Glen L. Blocher Library Endowment provides funds to the North Manchester Public Library to cover its operating expenses for the Glen L. and Eleanor Blocher Community Room.

Marie Creager North Manchester Library Endowment was established by funds provided by Mabel Hyatt in honor of Marie Creager, town librarian for nearly 50 years, to be used by the North Manchester Library to purchase items for circulation to the public.

Kevin Kyle Howenstine Remembrance Endowment provides funds to the North Manchester Public Library, North Manchester, Indiana, to purchase high-quality books on tape, compact discs or other technological means that allow someone to listen to a book.

Earl M. Jacoby and Mildred T. Jacoby Library Endowment provides funds for the North Manchester Public Library to meet the needs of senior citizens including those residing in Peabody Retirement Community and Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home.

Martha B. Jones Endowment for American & British Literature provides funds to the Wabash Carnegie Public Library, Wabash, Indiana to purchase the works of American and/or British Literature, and to honor Martha B. Jones, who, in providing 29 years of exceptional instruction in the English language, made a profound impact on the lives of students from Wabash High School.

North Manchester Public Library Operating Endowment provides funds to the North Manchester Public Library to help cover its operating expenses and carry out its role and mission.  

Davonne Rogers Lectureship Endowment provides funds to the North Manchester Public Library, North Manchester, Indiana, to be used to establish a periodic lecture series.

Richard M. Ross and Alice J. Grandstaff Ross Library Endowment was established for operations of the North Manchester Public Library and memorializes wife Alice, daughter Mary Lou and family friend Leila Christman. It also honors sons James Richard and George M. and daughter Jeanette Ann Ross Piott.  

Wabash Carnegie Public Library Operating Endowment supports the mission of the library to provide excellent service to all residents and taxpayers of the library district.

 

Manchester University

Allen C. Deeter Brethren Colleges Abroad Scholarship Endowment was established by friends and admirers of Dr. Deeter, a long-time professor in religion and philosophy at Manchester University and executive director of Brethren Colleges Abroad, BCA. This scholarship endowment provides financial aid to qualified Manchester University students wishing to study abroad.

Fahs Manchester College Professional Development Endowment was established by Eldon E. (Gene) Fahs and his family to support and encourage Manchester University administrators to advance their management knowledge, skill, and performance, and to participate in workshops, conferences, and degree programs.

Liegh B. and Florence T. Freed Manchester College Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to alternately benefit a music student and a science student attending Manchester University.

Jeffrey L. Grandstaff Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by David, Jane and Penny Grandstaff in honor and memory of their son and husband, Jeff. The scholarship assists students of computer science at Manchester University.

Ralph W. & Frances K. Johnson Endowed Fund for Peace Studies provide funds to Manchester University, North Manchester, Indiana, to be used to support the Peace Studies Program.

Robin D. and Jeanette M. Lahman Fund for Music provides support for the Manchester University Music Department.

Mary Louise Little Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to students of Manchester University. Miss Little, a community leader and businesswoman, served as president of the Community Foundation.

Manchester College 1889 Endowment was established for Manchester University and its students by businesses in the North Manchester area to commemorate the establishment of the college in 1889.

Manchester College Financial Assistance Endowment provides funds to financially assist worthy students from Wabash County who attend Manchester University or who are wanting to continue their education there.

Janice F. Walrod Manchester College Scholarship Endowment provides funds to aid worthy students entering the Manchester University pre-medical program. Mrs. Walrod established the fund in honor of son, Worth W. Walrod, Jr.

Multiple Benefactors

Dwight and Edith Fritchey Endowment was established by Mrs. Fritchey to provide for the Wabash Christian Church and the Wabash Carnegie Public Library.

Lulu M. Luckey Endowment provides funds to the Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren, Indiana, American Cancer Society for research, and Huntington County Help, Inc.

Viola B. Magner Memorial Endowment was established through her estate to provide funds for Wabash Presbyterian Church and Peabody Retirement Community.

Manchester Tool and Die Co., Inc. Community Endowment was established by Glen Blocher to provide funds to the Christian Fellowship Church, Inc. and the food program of the North Manchester Fellowship of Churches to cover operating expenses and to carry out their role and mission.

Ralph R. and Becky S. Naragon Ednowment was established to support The Honeywell Foundation, Church of the Brethren Home, Parkview Wabash Hospital Foundation , White's Residential and Family Services, North Manchester Historical Society, North Manchester First Brethren Church, and the North Manchester United Methodist Church.

Jane Anne Scheerer & Ernest William Scheerer Jr. Memorial Endowment provides funds to St. Matthews United Church of Christ, Wabash, Indiana, to be used for the installation or maintenance of a handicapped accessible elevator and funds to support the Honeywell Foundation, Wabash, Indiana.


Jean T. & Margaret E. Stoops Endowment provides funds to DePauw University, Wheaton College, and Coral Ridge Ministries Media, Inc., to be used to carry out their roles and missions.

Nolan D. Walker Memorial Endowment provides funds to be divided equally among Manchester Church of the Brethren, Manchester University, Boy Scouts of America and the Community Foundation of Wabash County. Mr. Walker was instrumental in the founding of the North Manchester Community Foundation in 1954.

 

Museums · Historic Preservation

Glen and Eleanor Blocher Memorial Endowment provides funds to the North Manchester Historical Society, Inc., North Manchester, Indiana, to be used to support the programs and operations of their museum.

Thomas R. Marshall Home Endowment was established by the North Manchester Historical Society through funds from individuals, sales of property and a gift from the Mary K. Peabody Foundation. It supports the birthplace home and 1850-era memorabilia of this Indiana governor and 28th vice-president of the United States.

North Manchester Center for History Endowment provides funds to the North Manchester Historical Society, Inc., North Manchester, Indiana, to be used to support the programs and operations of their museum.

Ray & Enid Beam FISH of Wabash Endowment provides funds to Friends In Service Here (FISH), Wabash, Indiana, to be used for food, shelter, clothing and any basic human need in Wabash.

E. Maurine Beery Memorial Endowment was established by family and friends to recognize her love of music and will provide funds to support the Manchester Church of the Brethren Adult Music program.

Church of Our Saviour Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships for Wabash County residents or graduates from any accredited Wabash County high school, who are entering Graduate School to study in the area of Ministry, Missionary Work, or Social Work.

Kenneth & Esther Clark Family Endowment provides funds for Christ United Methodist Church, Wabash, Indiana, to be used to carry out its role and mission.

Briannon Joelle Curless Memorial Leadership Scholarship provides funds to the Wabash Friends Church, Wabash, Indiana, so that they can provide scholarships to the youth of the Wabash Friends Church to participate in leadership training events, such as the Oakwood Academy in Syracuse, Indiana, to prepare for leadership in the youth group and other Christian ministry.

Clyde V. & Erma L. Dawson Memorial Wabash Friends Church Endowment provides support to the Wabash Friends Church, Wabash Indiana.  The funds are to be provided for the exclusive use by the Social Services Committee in the preparation and service of funeral dinners and other dinners at the Wabash Friends Church.

John R. and Jane D. Dragoo Wabash Christian Church Endowment was established to provide funds to benefit the Wabash Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Faith Baptist Church Endowment was established by Glen Blocher to carry out the role and mission of  Faith Baptist Church, North Manchester, Indiana.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camp Endowment was established by Robert and Theda Dawes to help students in Wabash County High Schools attend FCA camps and retreats.

F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service Here) of Wabash County, Inc. Endowment was established to meet emergency needs (not otherwise met) of persons living in or traveling through the Wabash area and given as an expression of Christian love and concern.  This outreach especially meets hunger needs.

Magis Fund provides funds to Saint Bernard Catholic School, Wabash, Indiana, to be used to support the operating expenses of the School.  

Manchester Church of the Brethren Ministerial Education Endowment provides support to the Manchester Church of the Brethren for its ministers education expenses.

Esther I. Miller Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created in memory of Esther I. Miller and shall be used to provide support to the Manchester Church of the Brethren's preschool program. 

Manchester Church of the Brethren Peace and Justice Endowment provides support to the Manchester Church of the Brethren for peace and justice activities and education.

North Manchester First Brethren Church Youth Outreach Endowment provides funds to continue activities that reach children and youth for the sake of Christ at the First Brethren Church of North Manchester, Indiana.

North Manchester United Methodist Church Scholarship Endowment was established through funds from the Wasem Fisher Scholarship Fund and provides scholarships to persons going into full- or part-time Christian service.

Dennis Miller Memorial Endowment was established in memory of Dennis Miller to provide funds to the First Brethren Church, North Manchester, Indiana, to be used to provide Bibles to high school seniors from the First Brethren Church of North Manchester. 

Ralph and Martha Reiken Memorial Endowment provides funds for First Brethren Church of North Manchester, Indiana.

Margaret Leonard and Eileen Richards DORCAS Endowment provides funds to the Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, Indiana, to support the mission of the Dorcas Society.  "The Dorcas Ministry is committed to offer many areas in which to train and enable our women to be in touch with each other.  Our ministry will disciple a woman to have a close personal relationship with our Lord, our Jesus, our Holy Spirit, and help her grow in her ability to hear and discern His will; to promote the entire work of the church, reaching out into home and community." 


Eileen Mills Strauss and Daniel Arden Strauss Music Ministry Endowment was established in memory of Eileen and Arden Strauss to enrich through music the ministry of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manchester, by funding special musical events, instruments, choir accessories, or children’s musical events.   

Wabash Friends Church Building Maintenance Endowment assists in the ongoing building maintenance of the Wabash Friends Church.

Wabash Friends Church Mission Endowment assists persons from the local congregation to participate in mission work.

Wabash Friends Church Music Endowment was established by Mary Elizabeth DuBois and family. It supports the furthering of the music ministry of the Wabash Friends Church.

Wabash Friends Church Scholarship Endowment helps underwrite matching grant scholarships to students from the local congregation.

Helen C. Walter Memorial Endowment provides funds to The Presbyterian Church, Wabash, Indiana, to be used for its operating expenses and to carry out its role and mission.

Warsaw Christian School Worthy Servants Endowment provides funds to Warsaw Christian School, Warsaw, Indiana, to be used to provide support to their Worthy Servants Program.

Youth for Christ Endowment provides funds to Youth for Christ to continue their ministry in reaching unchurched children for the sake of Christ and to encourage them to choose a Christian church in which to continue their spiritual growth.

Zion Lutheran Church Educational Endowment provides scholarships for members of the Zion Lutheran Church in North Manchester who have been called to Christian service in the Lutheran Church and for congregation-wide education opportunities.

Zion Lutheran Church Endowment was established by the will of Thomas Peabody and others to provide assistance with operational expenses of this North Manchester church.

Alan Howenstine Care Fund for Timbercrest Residents provides funds for those living in Timbercrest - Church of the Brethren Home, Inc., North Manchester, Indiana, Manor whose financial resources no longer meet their needs.

Kevin Kyle Howenstine Memorial Endowment provides funds to the library services of Timbercrest, Church of the Brethren Home, Inc., North Manchester, Indiana, to purchase high quality books on tape, compact discs or other technological means that allow someone to listen to a book.

Peabody Home Community Benefit Endowment provides funds to supplement the cost of care of Peabody residents whose personal resources have been exhausted. The primary purpose of Peabody since its founding in 1931 has been to provide gracious retirement living in a not-for-profit, full-service Christian setting.

Neva J. Simmons Endowment was established by V. A. Simmons in honor of his wife to provide funds for landscaping needs and purchase of trees for Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home.

Timbercrest Community Endowment provides funds to help support Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home’s ministry to residents with limited resources.  Timbercrest's mission of providing a loving and enriching community to older adults has a long history.

Arc of Wabash County, Inc. Endowment supports the goals of this provider of programs and services for developmentally disabled infants, toddlers, and adults in Wabash County.

Joan Beghtel Memorial Endowment provides funds to Northfield High School Special Education for L.D./Mi.M.H. students.  A victim of cerebral palsy, Joan taught special education classes for 39 years.

Lewis S. Conner & Hannah Brinton Norris Conner Memorial Endowment provides funds to the Wabash County Affiliate of the American Red Cross.

Manchester Meals on Wheels Endowment
exclusively supports Manchester Meals on Wheels, which provides meals for North Manchester residents who are unable to prepare their own meals. 

Pathfinder Foundation of Wabash County Indiana Endowment
supplements the cost of care and any related services for individuals in Wabash County who are served by Pathfinder Foundation, Inc.  


Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana, Inc. Endowment provides support to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana, Inc., Muncie, Indiana.

Joseph G. & Earleen Ulery Memorial Endowment, established by Kent Ulery and Joleen Ulery Sodervick and their families, provides support to the Honeywell Center Educational Outreach Programs.

Venus-Madison Memorial Scholarship Endowment
was established by Larry and Wes Tobias and their families in memory of Larry’s Mother, Venus, and Wes’s daughter, Madison, both of whom lost battles with cancer.  Support goes to the Indian Summer Camp, Louisville, Kentucky.

Sports and Recreation


Field of Dreams, Inc. Morrett Sports Complex provides support to maintain the buildings and grounds or provide additions to this sports and recreational complex serving Wabash area youth/adults.

Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center Endowment provides support to the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center.  Such support shall be used only for paying for major necessary repairs and/or major replacements to the structure, signage, fixtures, and equipment of the Center.

Glenn W. Ruppel Sports Complex Endowment provides support to maintain the buildings and grounds or provide additions to the Glenn W. Ruppel Park and Recreation Complex, a sports and recreational facility in North Manchester, Indiana.

Paul L. Speicher Foundation Pool Endowment provides support to the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center.  Such support shall be used only for paying for major necessary repairs and/or major replacements to the structure, signage, fixtures, and equipment of Center.

 

Field of Interest Endowments
The founders of a field of interest endowment designate an issue or area of need to receive financial support.  The donors identify their personal area of interest and the Foundation awards grants to organizations and programs in Wabash County that are aimed at serving that interest or concern.

Pauline Barker Literacy Endowment supports programs aimed at family literacy.

CAPE Endowment provides for programs in the fields of early childhood education, K-3 literacy, student academic support, college and career planning, and adult basic education.

CARE Early Childhood Scholarship provides scholarships for childcare providers and preschool educators residing in Wabash County, Indiana, who wish to continue their education by earning a CDA Certificate or an Associates or Bachelor's degree in early childhood education.

College Bound Endowment provides funds to be used for supporting college planning and preparation activities for families residing in Wabash County, Indiana.

Community Development & Civic Affairs Endowment supports programs related to criminal justice, community development, leadership training, and other general community activities.

Thomas Earl Education Endowment provides funds for educational purposes for students attending Northfield and Manchester High School.

Good Samaritan Endowment provides financial assistance to worthy and needy children and adults residing in Wabash County Indiana who have a need of financial assistance as a result of injury, disease, or medical condition.

Manchester Recycling Environmental Endowment provides support for programs, projects, and organizations that serve Wabash County and that protect and improve the environment with priority given to education in this field, community outreach programs and for general operation of recycling programs, projects, and organizations.

George M. & Edith L. Merkle Memorial Golf Endowment provides support to encourage education, learning, participation, play and involvement in the sport of golf by North Manchester area youth.

Scholarships
Scholarship endowments help a deserving student pursue higher education.  Organizations, families, and individuals can establish a scholarship endowment in the Community Foundation and define the eligibility and selection criteria, such as a field of study, academic or athletic achievement, community service experience, or career intentions.  Scholarships endowments are often used to honor or memorialize a loved one by awarding a grant to students who mirror the beloved personal traits or achievements. 

Terry D. & Carol A. Agness Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created in 2011 from the Terry D. and Carol A. Agness Family Foundation Trust.  Students applying for the scholarship shall attend Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana and pursue a degree in business or engineering.

Ella Truxell Baer Scholarship 
was created by Ella Truzell Baer's daughters, Bess and Lulu, in memory of their mother. The scholarship is awarded to Wabash High School graduates who are residents of the City of Wabash. Awards are based on the recommendations of the principal and guidance counselors of Wabash High School.


Al Bailey Vocational Scholarship 
was established to encourage study in a middle field, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, high-tech manufacturing, mechanics, machining, or welding. 


Bromley Educational Scholarship 
was created by Mrs. Deane Hastings for worthy students of the City of Wabash who wish to obtain a post-secondary education in a technical, vocational, or academic field.


Furel R. Burns Business Scholarship
was established by Jean E. Paulus in memory of her father, a former community leader and businessman in North Manchester. The scholarship will be awarded to the Manchester High School senior excelling in Business Administration/Management who plans to study business in college.

 

Orval H. Butts Athletic Scholarship was established by Lucile Butts in honor of her husband Orval, who was a pharmacist, merchant, and avid sports fan. The recipient will be the graduating senior at Wabash High School who has done the most for school spirit and pride in athletic competeition at the high school. 

 

Isaac Conner Educational Scholarship was established to aid students from Lagro Township who have financial need and have the academic ability to obtain a higher education. 

 

Roy B. Craver Scholarship was established to help students obtain a college education, especially those who, like him, are willing to serve in the military, even if they do not have plans to enlist. The scholarship is awarded to residents of Wabash County who will be graduating from any Wabash County high school in the spring on the year and are nominated by the principals based on academic achievement. 

Briannon J. Curless Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created by family members of Briannon Curless to memorialize Briannon’s life and to carry on the memory and meaning of her life.  The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Southwood High School who has demonstrated a commitment to academic achievement and a desire to serve the community.

 

John W. Daywalt Scholarship was created by Kathleen Daywalt to provide educational scholarship to Wabash High School graduates who have been accepted into and attend Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Science, Purdue University College of Pharmacy, or Manchester University College of Pharmacy on a full-time basis in pursuit of a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

 

John R. and Jane D. Dragoo and Family Scholarship was created to provide for tuition, textbooks, technology, testing and lab fees for students who are accepted into and attend Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, Wabash Campus. 

John L. Eckert Memorial Educational Scholarship Endowment was established by family and friends in honor of Dr. Eckert and his career in public education as a teacher, administrator and superintendent. The scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are graduates of Southwood, Huntington, Rochester or Manchester High Schools and majoring in public education.

Robert L. & Fay M. Elliott Scholarship Endowment was created by the children of Robert L. and Fay M. Elliot established this scholarship fund in 2007 to honor the memory of their parents who taught in the Wabash City School System for many years.

Charles & Florence Emrick Scholarship Endowment was established through the Emrick’s will and provides scholarships to studentss who have graduated from Southwood High School or White's Residential & Family Services, Inc. located in Wabash County, and are pursuing a Bachelors or Master’s degree in education.

Garth Eppley Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created to memorialize Garth Eppley by his parents Laura and Bill.  The scholarship is available to those majoring or minoring in music or music education.

Gerold “Doe” Faudree Athletic Scholarship Endowment was established by the children of Gerold Faudree in his memory.  The Fund provides scholarships to graduates of Manchester High School, North Manchester, Indiana who have demonstrated outstanding athletic abilities and leadership skills and who aspire to pursue a career in coaching and teaching. 

 

Floyd O. Glass Scholarship was established from Floyd Glass's will and supports graduates of Southwood High School who are graduating in the current year. School officials shall recommend a recipient who has financial need, taking into account the candidate's acadmeic achievement and demonstrated leadership ability. 

Sarah Kaye Haupert Memorial Dance Scholarship Endowment was established in 2011 by the friends and family of Sarah in her memory.  Sarah was a 2009 graduate of Northfield High School.  The scholarship is awarded to individuals who exhibit kindness, eagerness, happiness, and a positive and independent “can do” mental attitude, just like Sarah’s. 

William B. Hensley III Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in 2008 by Cindy, JR, and Todd Hensley, along with family friends, to honor and memorialize William and his love of athletics.  Scholarship recipients will have graduated from a Wabash County high school and be a collegiate sport participant.

 

Raymond C. and Martha Ross Hood Scholarship was established by retired elementary school teacher Martha Ross Hood. Martha created the scholarship to help deserving students build the means to take care of themselves and their families. 

 

Raymond C. and Martha Ross Hood Scholarship Endowment for Accounting Studies provides scholarship support for students who are accepted into and attend on a part-time or full-time basis, a two or four-year Indiana public or private institution of higher learning who are pursuing a degree in accounting. 

Robert & Pauline Hoover Scholarship Endowment was established in 2006 following the death of Robert, as part of his estate plan.  Robert was a Chester Township native engaged in farming and banking.  Selection for the scholarship is based on academic performance, community service hours, service organization leadership, along with other criteria.

Dennis Horn Cross Country Endowment was established by friends and family of this teacher and coach to recognize his 31 years of cross country coaching at Wabash High School. The fund provides college scholarships to cross country runners and supports the cross country program.

 

Jo's Hope Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Jolene Kastner Hensley.  Jolene is lovingly remembered by family and friends for her honesty, loyalty, sense of humor, and leadership. Her greatest interests were family, coaching children, and making people smile.  The fund provides college scholarships to Manchester High School students pursuing studies in health care or health and wellness.

Mallori L. Kastner Memorial Scholarship Endowment memorializes Mallori Lin Kastner, a 2010 graduate of Wabash High School who attended Grace College and Seminary.  Mallori was a statewide volleyball standout and also played basketball and ran track.  She was not only a talented athlete, but a dedicated team player and strong leader amongst her peers.  The fund provides college scholarships to Wabash High School students who were on the volleyball team throughout their high school career.

 

Max E. and Grace L. Kester Endowment Fund was established to help level the playing field for female athletes. This scholarship is awarded to the outstanding senior female athlete at Manchester High School who intends to continue her education after high school. The recipient is selected by Manchester High School. 

Gene L. & Bertha J. King Scholarship Endowment was established by Gene and Bertha and shall award scholarships to students with financial need from Northfield, Southwood, Wabash, or White’s High Schools who are pursuing a major for a pre-professional career such as education, teaching, law, medicine, pharmacy, science or engineering.

 

Beryl M. Klare Scholarship was established to assist students with financial need who want to obtain a higher education. With first preference given to residents of the City of Wabash, all residents of Wabash County may be considered. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need.

 

Karl F. and Bonnie Dee Merritt Manchester University Scholarship Endowment was established to provide support to a student attending Manchester University who has been accepted into the Department of Education in preparation for a teaching career at the elementary or secondary level.

 

Ruth M. Minear Educational Scholarship was established to further the post-high school education of any graduating senior of Wabash High School who is worthy of financial help. Scholarships are awarded based on the extent to which a student is prepared or able to succeed in college and the extent to which a studnet will benefit from financial help.

Dr. Howard & Helen Liebengood Scholarship Endowment was established by the Liebengood family.  Eligible applicants are students residing in Kosciusko County who are graduating in the top 20% of their high school class.

Lloyd R. and Katherine Mae Miller Endowment shall be distributed for use in propagating the Christian faith, on a non-sectarian basis, by the planning, conduct or promotion of Christian activities and Christian endeavors and the academic or vocational education and training of persons whose intention it is to commit and prepare themselves for employment in a recognized Christian service or profession.

Paulus Music Scholarship Endowment was established by Jean E. Paulus in honor of her children, Jay E. Paulus, Kent A. Paulus and Carolyn K. Paulus, all graduates and musicians of York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois. The scholarship will be awarded to the most outstanding graduating senior in the Music Department planning to become a Music Major in college.

Corlyle K. Paulus Athletic Scholarship was established by Jean E. Paulus in memory of her husband. The scholarship will be awarded to a Manchester High School senior excelling in athletics and planning to study Physical Education and Athletics in college.

Jerry L. Radabaugh Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Nancy Radabaugh and provides a scholarship to a student graduating from Northfield or Southwood high school and pursuing higher education from any accredited university, college, or conservatory.

Paul Thomas Reahard Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by parents Thomas R. and Carolyn Reahard and friends. This scholarship will be made available to a deserving graduate of Whitko or Manchester High Schools choosing to become a teacher in the area of theatre and drama as well as English and literature, or for a qualified student desiring to pursue a career in the performing arts. These were life interests of Paul Thomas Reahard.

Dorothy J. & William A. Rice Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Gary A. Rice and Randall W. Rice to memorialize their parents, Dorothy and William, who were devoted members of Christ United Methodist Church in Wabash, Indiana.  The endowment provides funds to Christ United Methodist Church to be used to award tuition only scholarship grants to members of the church.

 

John and Edith Richards Memorial Scholarship was established under the terms of their will to assist worthy young residents of Wabash County who have the desire and ability to continue their education beyond high school.

Chris Rood Memorial Baseball Endowment was established by family and friends to memorialize the endeavors of this teacher and coach. The three purposes of the fund are to provide scholarships to baseball players graduating from Wabash High School, to enhance the care and maintenance of the Wabash High School baseball field and to support the Wabash summer instructional baseball league.

George W. & Donna Mae Russell Scholarship Endowment was created through George Russell’s estate. This scholarship assists persons who are graduates of Wabash County, Indiana high schools in pursuit of post-secondary education.

 

Marietta and Paul L. Sell Memorial 4-H Scholarship was established by Doug and Barbara Vawter in memory of Barbara's parents. The Sells modeled the virtues of the 4-H pledge and motto, and believe deeply in giving thanks with grateful hearts. Candidates must have completed a minimum of 6 years in Indiana 4-H.

Larry Shoemaker Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Southwood Music Parents to provide scholarships to graduates of Southwood High School who plan to study music, music technology, music education, sound/music engineering, music performance or some other music discipline in college. 

V.A. (Viv) Simmons Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to current year graduates of Manchester High School, North Manchester, Indiana who have demonstrated in school and community life, outstanding performance in scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Una Eileen Slavens Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Una’s husband Robert and provides scholarships to students who graduate from Wabash High School, Wabash, Indiana, and pursue education studies.

Casey Sparling Memorial Athletic Scholarship Endowment was established by family and friends to memorialize Casey’s dedication to athletics as player and coach. Northfield High School athletes and managers may apply the award to the college of choice.

Dorothy Squires Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created by Fred Squires to memorialize his mother, Dorothy.  Scholarships are awarded to any Wabash County high school high school graduate attending a four year public or private institution to study any subject.

 

Blair and Marie Tate Scholarship was established by Marie Tate to help deserving graduates of any Wabash County high school who have financial need obtain an educational or career objective beyond high school. 

Franklin S. Tiede Memorial Education Scholarship Endowment was created by parents Charles R. and Julie G. Tiede in memory of their son. It assists persons between the ages of 18 and 25 who are pursuing a vocational or educational objective beyond high school level which has as its goal the propagation of the Christian faith.

 

Leone M. and Inez R. Tyner Scholarship was established by Mr. Tyner in memory of his wife, Inez. The scholarship assists worthy and ambitious students from Wabash County, with preference for those from Lagro Township, to attend a Protestant, Christian college or univeristy.

Harvey V. Underwood Science Scholarship Endowment was created by the family of Harvey Underwood 2003.  It was funded by his family, friends, and colleagues and provides financial assistance to a Manchester High School senior desiring to pursue a four-year science or science education degree.

 

Wabash County Memorial Scholarship provides a way for contributors to honor and remember those they love and respect. It combines four scholarships that were established to memorialize Dick Harvey, a Manchester Community Schools board member, Kevin Jones, a Wabash County advocate of Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Larry Lauer, the late 4-H leader and mentor, and the late Gladys Harvey, Wabash High School teacher. 

Wabash County Society for Crippled Children & Adults Scholarship Endowment was created by the Wabash County Society for Crippled Children and Adults in 2002.  The scholarship is awarded to a Manchester, Northfield, or Southwood High School graduate who is pursuing education in a field related to working with children and adults who have learning disabilities or who are mentally and/or physically disabled.

Wabash County Solid Waste Management District Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to a Wabash County resident who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from an accredited Indiana institution of higher education. 

Wabash High School Alumni Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to individuals, not currently enrolled in college, who have graduated from any of the accredited high schools located in Wabash County, Indiana and who are pursuing a two- or four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited Indiana institution of higher education.

Wabash High School Class of 1951 Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to individuals, not currently enrolled in college, who have graduated from any of the accredited high schools located in Wabash County, Indiana, and who are pursuing a two- or four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited Indiana institution of higher education.

 

Jennie Wade Scholarship was created to assist students in obtaining academic degrees or vocational training that could be used "to benefit mankind." Recipients will be nominated by school officials based on their academic performance or vocational ability.

 

W. Scott Wakefield Scholarship was created by the Vice and Wakefield families in memory of their son and grandon who lost his life as a young man. The scholarship supports people pursuing an occupational or educational objective beyond high school in a technical or science-related field. 


Dallas L. Winchester Scholarship provides scholarships for students who are attending on a full-time basis an Indiana 2 or 4 year public or private institution.  Selection is based on the following factors: demonstrated community service and leadership, in-school leadership and involvement in activities and academics, academic performance and work experience, and financial need.

Yopst Educational Scholarship was established to help students obtain an education beyond high school, whether in academic, technical, or vocational feields. This scholarship is awarded to students of good character who have financial need.

Donor-Advised endowments like unrestricted endowments permit for broad distribution of grants. Donor-advised endowments allow ongoing input from their donors or designated advisers.
